Scott Macpherson has a Bachelor of Horticulture (Hons) Degree from Massey, a Post Graduate Diploma in Technology – Environmental Golf Course Design (Hons) and received a Scholarship in Landscape Architecture and Environmental Design at University of California – Davis. He worked as a consultant with the Australian golf course design firm Thomson, Wolveridge and Perrett and with American firm Denis Griffiths and Associates.

Amongst many responsibilities he was on-site Architect responsible for the construction of the two courses at St Andrews Bay (now the 'Fairmont at St Andrews'). Since joining with Greg Turner to form Turner Macpherson Design, he has been jointly responsible for the renovations at Russley Golf Club (completed Feb '06), the additions and modifications at Oreti Sands, and the development of Millbrook West.
