Latest News from Turner Macpherson Golf Design

Latest News - Major renovation at Cromwell Golf Course underway.
The redevelopment and renovation of the Cromwell Golf Club's course (in Central Otago, NZ) is now well underway. Phase one of the project involves the complete redevelopment of the final 5 holes and should be completed by mid September 2010 with these holes returning to play before Christmas. The decision was taken to returf the green complexes in order to accelerate the process, and already one green is completed and a second will be turfed in early August.
Phase two, which is planned for 2011, will involve 4 more new greens and strategic bunkering but will not involve the closure of any holes.

Millbrook Opening
Prime Minister John Key officially launched the Turner Macpherson designed new Coronet Nine at the Millbrook Resort on Sunday 31st January 2010. For more details please read the Media Release from Millbrook Resort. For images from the new course please visit our Gallery pages.

News from Close House, UK
Graeme Bailey of Sky Sports UK recently visited the TMGD designed Close House course development in Newcastle. Included in his glowing report was the statement: "'The Colt' – potentially one of the finest courses that will ever be built in our lifetime anywhere in Britain". Gibbston Valley Station Resort
Consent has been granted for the Gibbston Valley Station Resort - including an 18-hole TMGD designed golf course. Construction is expected to start in 2010 with the first nine holes. See Otago Daily Times article for more information. The 18-hole golf course will be in a league of its own. Gibbston Valley Station managing director Greg Hunt said the Greg Turner-designed course, on the terrace between the Kawarau River and State Highway 6, would be different from other courses in the district. It would be a "Central Otago-style" course, where golfers could enjoy the unique terrain, rather than a championship-style golf course. See the ODT follow-up article for more details.

Close House developments:
Construction is well underway on TMGD’s Close House project in the north of England.

This is tremendous news for all concerned. With the economic climate being as it is, the Close House 'Colt' course may well be the only new course under construction in England this year. Lead designer on this project, Scott Macpherson, is delighted "there has been close to 5 years of effort already gone into the project and gaining consent can always be tricky. We’re very excited that the planners can see the relevance of the vision".

Greg Turner was likewise upbeat "it's an enormous privilege to be embarking on this new course. This will be our first full international project and to be able to fulfil the vision on such an iconic site makes it even more special. The Close House Estate is a quintessential piece of English countryside and I'm sure our homage to Harry Colt will fit perfectly into that environment."
